Stevie Ray Vaughan’s ‘Main’

Given to Stevie in 1984 by Billy Gibbons, “Main” is a Hamiltone Strat-style guitar made by James Hamilton of Buffalo, NY (who, incidentally, is that guy standing next to SRV, in case you were wondering.)
This axe is a little bit thicker than a Stratocaster, a little bit heavier, and does not have the arm cut-out or belly-pocket that make our Strats so comfortable, but Stevie didn’t seem to mind.
This guitar has an ebony fingerboard, measuring the same width and shape as Number One’s, with “Stevie Ray Vaughan” inlaid in pearl across the fingerboard.
Hamilton originally outfitted this guitar with active EMG pickups and an onboard preamp, which Rene Martinez later replaced with the Vintage Fender pups we know and love.

Great series of posts on SRV’s other Strats. I always like the looks of Main– the body binding especially. I ran across a pic of “Jimbo” today, the name of SRV’s ‘52 Tele that he played before switching to a Strat.
