Stevie Ray Vaughan’s ‘Red’

SRV Red

Red is a ‘64 Strat, originally with right-handed neck which was replaced with a left-handed neck in late 1986 (both had rosewood fingerboards).

A bit of wear in the red finish on the bottom of the body shows that Red was actually black or sunburst to begin with, and was later refinished. This one was also equipped with a left-handed neck.

Like Charley and the Yellow One, Red came from Charley’s Guitar Shop in Dallas, in late 1983.

Occasionally Fender used to paint over sunburst bodies as demand for the sunbursts dropped and other colors increased. Maybe this body is one of those paint of sunburst examples?
